A Little Bit about Diamonds

The thing that puts the diamond above every other precious stone is its "fire" and brightness. While the nature is the one which determines the color and the clarity of a stone, its cut depends only on the skill of the ones who elaborates it.

The cut of the diamond is the fact that determines the reflexion of the light and as a consequence the bright of the diamond. A diamond that is cut in a superficial manner against its latitude allows too much light to penetrate it and it reflects too little. A suchlike diamond will look dim and brightless . A diamond cut too deep allows the light to break loose through its sideways and will look as dim, too.

The measured depth and the measured area of a diamond, applied to determine how right is the cut are given by the percentage of the most wide part of the diamond. If this most wide part of the diamond measures 10 mm, the area of the cut measures 5.6 mm and the total depth is of 6.25 mm, then it will be of 56% and the depth of 6.25% .

The percentage that gives the ideal cut differs from a shape to other. Much of the artless diamond is spent when wanting to cut it in order to have ideal proportions. This way leads to a precious stone with less karats. The diamond cutters give up sometimes to the ideal proportions, just to get to a larger and beneficial jewel . The standard evaluation of the diamonds (Rapaport) doesn't take into account their proportions, so that a larger diamond having acceptable proportions will have a larger value than a little one having better proportions (its color and clarity being equal).

As a consequence, the diamonds which have a perfect cut are very rare and hard to find by the salesmen and you will notice for sure the difference of the unique diamonds' prices.
